The Road to Lisdoonvarna / The Boys of Portaferry / The Ladies’ Pantalettes (Reels) *
 This is one of several sets that we played at Kelton Hill Horse Fair in Dumfries and Galloway in south west Scotland. An event with great heritage, Robert got us the gig through local artist Lizzie Farey, who has kindly donated her artwork to this album. It was a memorable summer’s day of course — Robert knew it would be good, as he always did. Lisdoonvarna is in County Clare and known for its traditional music. The reel may possibly be related to Scottish ones, appropriately All the Ways to Galloway and Ciorsdan Mhòr (Big Kirsty). Portaferry is in County Down on Strangford Lough and the setting for traditional boat regattas, friends and fine music, memorably visited by Duncan and Gordon many years ago. The last tune may appear to refer to women’s undergarments, but it was also the name given to the smallest, top-most sail of a ship when all were deployed to aid a speedy return to port and brings the set safely home.
